The third theme of The Hibernation Project featured sound art, spoken word, guided meditation comedy, poetry, and music works, originally aired on CJSW 90.9 fm (our local campus & community radio station). With this theme, artists were invited to consider sound as an invisible medium with incredible power to transport the listener places. There is a role for escapism in surviving winter in Canada. In an era increasingly moderated by screens, digital stimulus, and external communications, we wonder, is “the mystic beach” a paradise outside reality? The utopia within? Or something else entirely?
Thanks to the artists, and to everyone who tuned in and travelled to the Mystic Beach with us. Gratitude to CJSW 90.9 FM for hosting this Hibernation theme, especially Jasmine Vickaryous and Adam Kamis. Be sure to check out Chris Locke’s ongoing podcast Happy Good, from the Sonar Network. While you’re at it, listen to Prairie Surfin, hosted by Jay Heule every Monday night from 10 – 11 pm on CJSW 90.9 fm – a weekly escape to the beach!
